Colin Firth: Mr. Darcy, of course

What music are you currently grooving to?
Mark Mulcahy, Fathering. I've only just caught up with this one. I'm playing it to death. He seems quite hard to come by and I'm sad enough to get a bit of satisfaction out of that. Dave Godin's Deep Soul Treasures Volume 3. I'm endlessly grateful for the whole Dave Godin project. It's like having your mate's trusty older brother guiding you through the archives. Also Billy Mahonie, Me'Shell Ndegéocello, Ryan Adams, Badly Drawn Boy, Common, and Teenage Fanclub.

What, if push comes to shove, is your all-time favourite album?
Grievious Angel by Gram Parsons. Ask me tomorrow and I'd probably give a different answer, but this one hits the spot year after year.

What was the first record you ever bought? And where did you buy it?
I think White Horses [MFP re-recording, not Jacky original]. The B-side was The Unicorn Song. That was a birthday present, in which case I can truthfully say it was T.Rex's Telegram Sam--from WH Smith's -- when it came out.

Which musician have you ever wanted to be?
When I was eight I wanted to be Mark Bolan. I signed up for group guitar lessons--where we were taught to play Lord of the Dance--and began to grow my hair, a process which took many years, finally reaching completion in time for it to become horribly unfashionable.

What do you sing in the shower?
Folsom Prison Blues. I'd rather not say why.

What is your favourite Saturday night record?
Water No Get Enemy by Fela Kuti, if I'm lucky enough to be having that sort of Saturday night.

And your Sunday morning record?
Colorado Girl by Townes Van Zandt.
